Hurricanes prospect Ryan Suzuki has been assigned to the Springfield Thunderbirds of the AHL, the team announced on Tuesday. Suzuki was activated from the non-roster injury list, which he was placed on following a shoulder injury he suffered on Oct. 9th.

The 2019 first round pick had gotten off to an impressive start in the preseason prior to the injury, tallying two goals and an assist in four contests. Although many of the NHL rostered Hurricanes played in less contests, Suzuki’s three points trailed only Michael Bunting (4) in the preseason.

Suzuki had certainly elevated himself into the conversation to make the opening night roster and had caught the attention of the Carolina coaching staff.

The 2022-2023 campaign for Suzuki was spent with the Chicago Wolves, where he recorded 13 goals and 19 assists in 50 games, all career-highs across three different seasons in Chicago.

Now, he will join Dylan Coghlan in Springfield, as he looks to get his first official action of the 2023-2024 campaign.

With a few games under his belt, Suzuki could certainly be an option for the roster, especially with any injuries, which the Hurricanes have dealt with a lot in the early going this season.
